A&E waiting times at the Borders General Hospital are the second worst on record, according to new statistics.
In September this year, only 59.8% of people were seen within four hours, the SNP’s target treatment time.
The monthly figure has only ever been worse once before in March 2023 when only 58.8% patients were seen within four hours.
The latest Public Health Scotland figures show at the Borders General Hospital during September, 1,114 people waited more than four hours, 479 people waited more than eight hours, and 322 people waited more than 12 hours.
Performance in the Borders was also well below the Scottish national average of 69.4%.
Scottish Borders MP, John Lamont, said: “These shocking new figures should raise alarm bells for the SNP Government.
“The SNP must give our excellent NHS staff the resources they need to give patients here in the Borders the treatment they deserve.”
Scottish Borders MSP, Rachael Hamilton, said: “The SNP Government needs to act quickly to give NHS Borders more support to reduce A&E waiting times. For too long have services relied on the goodwill of hardworking staff members.”
“Successive SNP health secretaries have failed to get a grip on this situation.
“I will be demanding answers from Neil Gray on what actions he will take to prevent this spiralling even further as we approach winter.”
