Borders MSP Rachael Hamilton has written to new First Minister John Swinney over the potential closure of local community hospitals.
NHS Borders has said they "will suggest closing beds" if they "don't have assurances of a safe medical model being in place" at the four community hospitals in Kelso, Duns, Hawick and Peebles.
A review has also been launched on the future of services at the hospitals.
Ms Hamilton has now written to John Swinney asking what actions the Scottish Government will take to support the community hospitals and requesting a meeting with SNP ministers to discuss healthcare in the Borders.
A campaign by John Lamont MP to save the hospitals has received over 3,500 signatures.
Scottish Borders MSP, Rachael Hamilton, said: "The public need firm, unequivocal assurances that the four community hospitals in the Borders will remain open.
"These facilities provide excellent healthcare and local people expect that to continue in the future.
"If the health board won't guarantee that services at these hospitals will be protected, John Swinney and the SNP must step in.
"Despite the best efforts of fantastic NHS staff, it is already difficult enough for people in the Borders to access many healthcare services. What we need is investment to reduce waiting times, not the closure of essential facilities which would only result in even more strain on other areas of our NHS."
