Local MP John Lamont has raised concerns over "reckless" speeding on the A68 near Camptown.
Several local constituents have expressed fears to the Borders MP that excessive speeds on the road south of Jedburgh could cause accidents.
Residents say there was once a speed camera in the area and that one should be installed again.
Scottish Borders MP John Lamont said: "I have been troubled by reports from local residents about the excessive and potentially even reckless speeds of some vehicles on the A68 south of Jedburgh.
"There is an urgent need for new signs to be installed to promote safe speeds, and I believe there is a strong case for restrictions to try and reduce the likelihood of an accident.
"Those interventions are necessary to reduce the risk and limit the speed of vehicles to a reasonable level.
"I have raised this with Police Scotland, Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government, and will continue to monitor the situation closely until road safety is improved."
