Rachael Hamilton MSP recently discussed steps towards reaching net zero targets with local timber suppliers in the Scottish Parliament.
The Borders MSP spoke with representatives from BSW Timber from Earlston and MKM Building Supplies from Galashiels.
They discussed the timber sector's contribution to the wider construction industry at an event by the Scottish Timber Trade Association (STTA) which was titled 'Timber in Construction: Driving Net Zero'.
The STTA highlighted that timber in construction comes from sustainably grown productive forests which help trap carbon.
They also promoted the use of timber in construction as it is more environmentally-friendly than many other materials.
Scottish Borders MSP, Rachael Hamilton, said: "It was a pleasure to speak with local timber suppliers at this event and hear how the sector is helping tackle climate change and increasing sustainability in construction.
"It's vitally important that we meet net zero targets and take action to protect our environment wherever possible.
"Timber may not be a suitable material in every instance but increasing its usage in the construction industry would certainly make a difference.
"Thank you to the organisers for arranging this informative event and working hard to help Scotland and the UK reach our net zero targets."
